The stages of snorkelling

Dolphin Snorkeller

This course is aimed at younger children and introduces snorkelling via a series of seven progressive fun in water sessions. Each session is named after a different type of dolphin, and completion of a session results in the award of the corresponding dolphin sticker. Once students have collected a complete set of dolphin stickers, they can be awarded the grade of BSAC Dolphin Snorkeller. Dolphin Snorkellers who wish to continue their snorkel training need only to purchase the Snorkel Diver manual and complete the Snorkel Diver classroom lessons and knowledge assessment to be awarded BSAC Snorkel Diver.

Snorkel Diver

There are classroom sessions to teach the theoretical knowledge of snorkelling, coupled with practical lessons in the pool or in sheltered water. The practical training is identical to the content of Dolphin Snorkeller. The training is structured and progressive, building skills and confidence.

Advanced Snorkeller

There are classroom sessions to teach more advanced theoretical knowledge of snorkelling, coupled with practical lessons in Open Water. An Advanced Snorkeller is a comprehensively trained, experienced and responsible snorkeller.

Your Kit

You will need a snorkel, mask and a pair of fins. These are inexpensive and can be bought from shops such as Decathlon and Sports Direct for around £15. We can loan you some kit for the first 6 weeks or until you decide to join. Please speak to one of our snorkel instructors before you purchase any equipment to ensure the equipment you buy is the correct specification.

Shortie wetsuit

You can wear a shortie wetsuit to keep you warm in the pool as parts of the lessons may be take from the pool side.

Rash vest

You can wear a rash vest for an extra layer should you want to.

Mask

A mask needs to fit with a tight seal and must conform to eu safety standards. Speak to one of our Snorkel Instructors and they will tell you how to fit your kit properly.

Adjustable fins

These are adjustable fins which will fit a range of sizes. You may want to wear neoprene booties or socks with these fins

Full foot fins

These fins are the most popular style. Speak to one of our Snorkel Instructors and they will tell you how to fit your kit properly.

J tube snorkel

This is the snorkel you will need to use while completing your training. Please speak to one of our Snorkel Instructors to confirm you have the correct snorkel.

Valve snorkel

This snorkel can't be used until you are achieved your snorkelling qualification.
